When I woke up, we were still in Hampton. It was cold, overcast, and foggy, just like yesterday. My dad was hoisted up the mast to take our instrumentation off so that we could get under the fixed bridges in the ICW. All fixed bridges in the ICW are required to be at least 65 ft tall; our mast is 65 ft including our bendable VHF antenna, so if we had the instruments on we wouldn't be able to fit under any bridges! Once Dad was back on deck, we said goodbye to the Pattisons and united from their boat. It was about 10:30 am when we left the harbor.

The channel through Norfolk had lots of activity, most of it being tug boats. It was also interesting to see all of the huge surface ships as we passed the naval base. A bit farther down the channel, we passed a merchant ship that one of my dad's friends was piloting. He came out and waved to us while we passed the ship!

The ICW got prettier as we went south. We went under a few bridges that were only a few inches above our mast! We also went through a lock. It only rose 2ft, but it was still fun to go through. Clarke, Cyrus, and I ran around a park while we were waiting for the water to rise.

We got to our anchorage around 7:30 pm, after dark. We had a nice dinner and watched Ms. Congeniality before bed.
