still sailing

We did laundry, got groceries, and picked up a boat part this morning. Once the final load of laundry was done, my mom and I explored the town of Amelia Island. We met up with the boys once they were done with their errands. Clarke and Cyrus got me 3 Pura Vida bracelets for a late birthday present; so sweet of them! Then we went back to the boat and got underway on an overnight sail to Cape Canaveral.

Once we cleared the jetties we set course for Cape Canaveral. Unfortunately, we had to drop the jib due to the tight wind angle. Luckily the wind was light and the waves were almost nonexistent, so the sail was fast despite heading into the wind. After the boys and I finished our school work, we had an afternoon snack of leftover (or as we like to call it, "pre-prepared") bread pudding. We ate dinner as the sun set. Then my parents went to sleep while the boys and I took the first watch.

At 8 pm Cyrus went to bed while Clarke and I stayed up. The night was gorgeous; full moon, docile waves, and not too cold. I enjoyed looking at the stars and talking to Clarke. However, even with Clarke to talk to, being on watch was pretty boring. I got tired quickly despite the ample amount of sleep I'd gotten and the early time of day (barely 9 pm!). I found eating woke me up... at least until I got a food coma!

Clarke and I stood watch until 11:15 pm. Then we got Dad up. Even with the engine right next to my head, I fell asleep quickly.
