40 nautical miles

We all took showers this morning. By 10 am we were off the dock and taking the ICW towards St Catherines Island, an island owned by St Catherines Island Preserve.

About 45 minutes into the sail we came to a small town called Isle of Hope. My grandparents used to stop here almost every year on Running Tide to see Aunt Caroline while she attended SCAD in Savannah. We decided to briefly pull up to the Marina dock. After checking in with the harbormaster, we walked a loop around the neighborhood. The houses were adorable! It felt good to stretch my legs too. When we got back, my dad fueled up while we got t-shirts at the Marina shop. Our shirt designs were really fun; they had a map of Isle of Hope and the surrounding area printed on the back. Clarke's shirt had a map with places where certain fish could be found. By noon, we were underway again.

The sail was nice despite being cold and windy, and we arrived at St Catherines Island around 4 pm. After anchoring, the boys blew up the dinghy while I did schoolwork. Around 4:45 pm we dinghied to shore. Once we landed, we pulled the dinghy onto the sand and walked along the beach. Clarke found a beautiful piece of bright orange coral. We watched the sunset and it was absolutely beautiful. Apparently there are lemurs on the island, but we didn't see any. When we got back to the boat we played cards and ate dinner before going to bed.
