40 nautical miles, 2 miles hiking

I woke up early today so that we could get underway. We had already left Frenchboro by the time I was topside. My dad very kindly made us breakfast burritos. It was the first time I've ever had them and they were really good!

Once moored in Ilse au Haut, we rode into the landing and started our hike. We went to the tallest point on the island but sadly didn't get to see a good view. On the way back the boys went a different way than my mom and I. They came back with a handful of blackberries! They were tart, but good. By 1:15 pm we were on our way to The Basin.

We had some delicious ice cream during our sail. Once we arrived, we dropped the sail and anchored. The boys were quick to deploy the paddleboards because of a rare sight... saltwater rapids!!!

The Basin is a big body of water with a VERY small opening to the ocean. Between 10+ ft tides and a tight opening (only 40ft wide with a rock in the middle), the water flowing in/out moves really fast (10 mph)- hence the rapids. We walked on land to the top of the rapids before putting the paddleboard in the water and riding down the rapids. I had lots of fun even though my dad, mom, and I flipped when we went! We got soaking wet and cold so we used that as a reason to go back to the boat and shower. The nice, hot rinse-off felt great and dinner was amazing. The sunset was so so pretty too. I was also glad to get a haircut.
